TUBE SHOW 2024 Information - Common Methods for Tube Material Quality Inspection

In welding factories, the quality inspection of tube materials is a tricky issue. Every time when dealing with tubes of different sizes, operators must readjust the position, angle, and distance of the test probes, and calibrate the equipment as well. With the continuous advancement of technology, TUBE SHOW 2024 has also learned that the current tube material quality inspection work is no longer troublesome, but both quick and good.

TUBE SHOW 2024 integrates mainstream quality inspection methods. There are two common inspection methods on the market for tube materials, namely eddy current and ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) processes. Eddy current inspection utilizes electromagnetic principles to guide current through the tested pipeline. The flow of current is similar to the flow of water in a river, always choosing the path of least resistance. When water encounters an obstacle, such as a stone or wood, it will bypass this object, forming a small vortex, or eddy current, which can usually be seen downstream of the obstacle.

As long as the material of the tube is metallic, the current can freely pass through the conductive metal. When the characteristics of the metal change, the flow of the current will be interrupted.

Ultrasonic systems use mechanical principles to achieve similar effects. As the name implies, it transmits sound waves, which are high-pitched to the human ear, and exhibit unusual behaviors when passing through materials with abnormal conditions.

Some ultrasonic systems use a single probe, while phased array ultrasonic systems use multiple transducers. The transducers transmit test signals at different times and angles, and the signals travel through various paths of the pipe material to cover the surface of the tube to be tested to the maximum extent.
