TUBE CHINA 2024 Brief - A Cautious Attitude towards AI in the Pipe Manufacturing Industry

The progress of AI has attracted attention from various industries. However, TUBE CHINA 2024 learned from the latest industry report that the manufacturing industry has stalled in the utilization of AI technology. The report shows that 20% of senior executives in manufacturing have no plans to incorporate AI into their operations, and more than 60% of executives are unsure whether AI will bring any benefits to their companies, or have researched AI but failed to find suitable application scenarios. Only less than 20% of manufacturers have begun to apply AI technology.

TUBE CHINA 2024 learned from the report that among executives who are pessimistic about the business outlook for the next six months, 45% think that labor shortage is a problem, and 43% believe that rising labor costs are a problem.

As cyber attacks are quite common in the manufacturing industry, it is understood that over the past five years, more than one-third (34%) of respondents have been subjected to cyber attacks. Therefore, the trend of related manufacturers adopting AI technology is cautious, and it is limited to limited security infrastructure.

Thomas Freeman, director of Sikich's cybersecurity practice department, said, "Hackers have many ways to invade a company's system, from phishing scams to DNS attacks. Defense measures must be comprehensive, including firewalls, regular security audits, penetration tests, security training, and threat intelligence."

However, Jerry Murphy, the partner in charge of Sikich's manufacturing and distribution services, stated, "Facing challenges in recruitment and retention, manufacturers can correctly use technologies such as AI to improve efficiency and automate backend operations, which can help manufacturers reduce costs, stimulate demand, improve customer relations, and bring products to market faster. However, most manufacturers tend to make thoughtful decisions, evaluating the potential risks and challenges of AI entering the production end."
