PIPE SHOW 2024 NEWS - Overview of Manufacturers' Powder Coating Production Lines

In recent years, many metal manufacturers have been planning to introduce in-house spray coating lines instead of outsourcing the coating process. PIPE SHOW 2024 has learned that many factories are considering in-house coating to avoid the friction during transportation and to no longer plan project schedules around contractors' timelines, significantly reducing coating costs within the factory itself.

 

Why choose powder coating as the spray material?

 

During most coating processes, powder coatings carry an electrostatic charge when sprayed. The charged powder particles are attracted to the metal parts, which are grounded using metal racks or hooks. When the coated parts are heated in an oven, the powder melts, flows, and upon cooling, forms a uniform and durable surface.

 

Many workpieces are exposed to moisture, sunlight or other unstable environments for long periods of time, and the preferred coating material is powder coating. Powder coatings are also favored by many metal manufacturers for their resistance to chipping, fading, and scratching.

 

In the handling process, parts are typically hung on rolling racks or placed on carts.

 

The conveyor system can be manual or automatic. Manual systems require an operator to prepare the parts, moving them from one piece of equipment to another, one large part at a time, or transferring several small or medium-sized parts in batches, placing them on a conveyor belt for powder spraying.

 

Automated production lines, on the other hand, can transport parts mechanically and perform automatic pre-treatment and powder spraying. Both manual and automatic systems subsequently use ovens of specific dimensions for drying and curing.
