US line pipe prices drop in August

Both domestic and import line pipe prices sank in August, Kallanish learns from analyst and data collector Pipe Logix.

 

Average US line pipe pricing fell by -2.8% from July to $1,613/short ton, inclusive of both domestic and import pipe.

 

Domestic prices fell by -2.1% to $1,773/st, while import prices fell by -3.7%. Pipe Logix notes that August marked the 13th consecutive month of price declines, with pricing down -20% overall from the most recent high.

 

“Reported import volumes are -5% lower compared to a year ago while domestic shipments are higher.,” Pipe Logix says. “The [US] rig count is higher compared to a year ago but it is down -14% from the peak last December. The ratio of line pipe shipments per rig is 247 st/rig, near its five-year average.”
