Newly Built Trunk Oil and Natural Gas Pipelines in China Surpassed 2,500 Kilometers From January to September 2023

Since the beginning of this year, China has vigorously promoted the construction of oil and natural gas pipeline network infrastructure, and a number of major projects have been accelerated and successfully put into production. From January to September, the mileage of China's newly built pipelines exceeded 2,500 kilometers, at record high.

Recently, 583-kilometer-long Xinjiang section of the China's west-to-east gas transmission project, completed welding after more than a year of construction. As a key project in China's "14th Five-Year Plan" for oil and gas development, the entire project is expected to be completed in October 2024, and will be able to deliver 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the Middle East annually.

China has been vigorously promoting the construction of oil and gas pipeline network infrastructure, and a number of interconnection projects have been completed successively. Five trunk natural gas  pipelines, namely, the China-Russia East Route, the West-East Pipeline, the Sichuan-East Pipeline, the Qingning Pipeline and the Suwan Pipeline, have been fully interconnected within the territory of Jiangsu, with a transfer capacity of 7.5 billion cubic meters per year. The interconnection project between the Zhongkai Line and the Pingtai Line was successfully completed, providing more gas transmission channels for the largest natural gas storage reservoir in China's central and eastern regions - the Wen 23 Gas Storage. The second line of the 4,269-kilometer-long Sichuan-East Natural Gas Pipeline has also recently begun construction, which is a key step in the construction of China's natural gas pipeline network of "five vertical and five horizontal", and the project will be able to deliver more than 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually after its completion.

In the first three quarters, The National Pipeline Network Group's total pipeline construction mileage exceeded 2,500 kilometers, a year-on-year increase of 30%, reaching a record high.

During the period of "14th Five-Year Plan", China plans to build more than 20,000 kilometers of new pipelines. Over the past three years, the National Pipeline Network Group has started more than 170 construction projects, welded more than 10,000 kilometers of new projects, and completed 11,300 kilometers of pipelines with production conditions, increasing the mileage of natural gas pipelines by 21%, and the capacity of interconnecting and transferring supplies by 57%.
